Set up Dill with Lightspeed

Pick your site, import your categories and items, fill in ingredients once, then print. Here is every step, including how to keep Dill in step when your menu changes.

Pick the site to sync

Lightspeed accounts often hold several locations. Choose the one you are setting up before anything else.

1.Next to Sync with Lightspeed, click the arrow beside the location name.
2.Pick the location you are setting up. The ticked one is active.
3.Only have one site? It is already selected and there is nothing to do.

Whatever you pick here is the location the Sync menu imports from, on both the Categories and My Labels pages.

Import your categories

In the web app, open the Categories page and pull your Lightspeed categories in first.

1.Top right, click Sync with Lightspeed, then Import Data.
2.The Select Items window lists your Lightspeed categories. Tick the ones you want.
3.Click Import. They appear on your Categories page.

Only categories you bring in here can hold items in the next step. Skip one now and its items will not import later.

Import your items

On the My Labels page, choose which categories to pull items from. Each item is tagged with the location it came from.

1.On My Labels, click Sync with Lightspeed, then Import Data.
2.In 'Select categories to import data from', tick the categories whose items you want.
3.Click Continue. Your Lightspeed items import as labels, each tagged with its location in the Source column.

Items in a category you have not imported are skipped. That is not an error.

Pick a label type

Open an item from My Labels. Each label card shows its size and how many fields it needs.

1.Tap an item to open Item Details.
2.Choose Food To Go 2x2, Food to Go 2x4, or Food to Go Landscape 4x2.
3.The form updates to just the fields that label prints.

Fill in what the label needs

1.Type ingredients heaviest first.
2.Tap Flag allergens to mark them in the text. They print in bold.
3.Set the Contains line and how long it keeps. The barcode is already filled in from Lightspeed. Change it only if the printed code has to differ.
4.Scroll down and tap Save label. The item is now print ready on mobile.

A 2 day use by is 2 days from when the label prints, not from today.

Keep Dill and Lightspeed in step

This is the one thing that works differently from Clover.

When your menu changes in Lightspeed, open the Sync menu on the matching page and pull the update in. Two clicks and you are current. The full routine is below.

Print on the mobile app

1.Tap Connect and pair your Bluetooth label printer.
2.Search by name or filter by category, then tap the item.
3.Pick a label format. Tap Change to switch anytime.

Use Scan to pull an item up by its barcode, or Template Selection to set a default format for many items at once.

Check the preview, then print

1.Adjust text size, the Contains and May contain lines, and the use by. The preview updates live.
2.Tap Print, or Quick Print to go straight to printing.
3.Enter the quantity and tap Yes.

The use by is worked out at the moment of printing. Every print with a use by is logged for traceability in your Safety monitor.

Keeping Dill and Lightspeed in step

When your Lightspeed menu changes, pull the update into Dill from the Sync with Lightspeed menu on the matching page. Two clicks and you are current.

Import DataBrings in new categories or items not in Dill yet.

Update InfoRefreshes name, price and other details on items you have already imported.

Clean Deleted DataRemoves items from Dill that were deleted in Lightspeed.

Dill only mirrors items whose category is already synced. Move an item out of a synced category, or remove its category, and its label leaves Dill. Move it back and it returns as a fresh, blank label after the next Import Data.

A sync only refreshes name, category and price. Ingredients, allergens, use by and your template choice are never overwritten. Re-running a sync is safe. It compares, it does not pile up.

Common questions

Does Dill change anything in my Lightspeed till?

No. Changes flow one way, Lightspeed to Dill.

Do I have to share my Lightspeed password?

No. You log in to Dill and the accounts are linked once.

I have several sites. Does Dill handle that?

Yes. Pick the site you are working on and everything imports from it. Items show which location they came from.

Does Dill update on its own when my menu changes?

No. You pull updates in from the Sync menu when you need them, which takes two clicks.

Will a sync wipe the ingredients I typed?

No. Sync only refreshes name, category and price.

Where does the barcode come from?

Lightspeed. You can change it if the printed code needs to differ.

Which printers work?

Brother Bluetooth label printers. Dill pairs with them directly from the mobile app.
